This Regency short features a determined heroine who, after the deaths of her parents two years previously, is forced to live by her wits alone so that she can remain on the fringes of good society. Her hope is to meet a gentleman who will overlook her lack of dowry and love her for herself, yet she is compelled to keep on the move from one houseparty to the next in order to have a roof over her head, food in her stomach, and to keep the other guests from realizing she is so very poor and, thus, shun her altogether. After an unforseen yet humorous encounter with the inebriated young lordling, the enterprising you lady realizes that her hostess is willing to endow her with a parting gift and a method of travel to her next destination if she leaves without a fuss. A scheme is born to create a little disturbance at each houseparty hereafter, pawn the gifts received for moeny, and build a little nest egg over time. The scheme works extremely well until the lady encounters the young lordling from her past and a baron who is on to her schemes and bent on retribution.Ventre a Terre is a sweet tale told with warmth and humor. I was most appreciative of the inventive circumstances utilized by Ms. Sheridan in her writing and the wonderful characterization that produced such a spunky heroine. I will certainly be looking for more tales from this author because her writing shines and her cunning mind seems well able to create stories that add a little something that makes them fresh and exciting.

Ventre a Terre A Sweet Regency Short Story The Unfortunate Lord Philip Volume One Book 1 edition by Lydia M Sheridan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A young woman alone in the world, with out any protection, tries to survive the best she can. Her only talent is her voice.
I just finished reading this story. The plot was interesting but because it was so short a lot of it didn't make enough sense to be satisfying. I gave it three stars because it was an interesting idea. There were also a number of typos that should have been fixed--they were distracting. This is not worth $1.99. Maybe $0.99.
This was a nice short story.
Funny and engaging. I particularly enjoyed the banter at the end. I would recommend this for a quick read.
It's a clean romance.
This is a delightful romantic comedy! It would be a nice read while on a plane or train trip. I won't give the story away, but I felt so sorry for poor Philip. I would like the author to do a follow up story for him.
I've been a fan of Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen since my teens, so I keep an eye out for regency romances. I thought this one was entertaining, and I liked the main characters. I found the story development a bit improbable, but enjoyed it anyway.
I really enjoyed this tale and wish it had been longer.
The dialogue was clever and the story well paced. I am not sure why it was that Richard fell in love with the heroine, other than she had spirit and was attractive -- of course. But to tell the truth it was a good enough story I didn't care.
I definitely recommend this one for a quick, delightful read.
I'm not sure where all these great reviews are coming from...? The heroine is somewhat likeable, and her situation is amusing enough, but that isn't enough to carry a plot... or lack of thereof. I'm not sure how the story moved-
what do we know about the love interest/hero? he's hot and rich. And... yep. That's about it. he sure is hot and rich and at one point he was angry at our lady for kind of not very well explained reasons but I guess he got over it because after that he's ready to make her his wife? Huh?
Why do we know so much more about the losing parting in the love struggle? why is he much more of a well rounded, likeable (not to mention, developed) character? A short story shouldn't excuse this sort of thing...
